Bird bath

This is another attempt at doing some watercolor that isn't precise detail. I enjoy doing this sort of painting but still need to learn how much to put in and how much to leave out.
The bird bath is in my very small courtyard. It was surrounded by pumpkins and zucchinis and petunias. It makes for some nice memories. i love seeing the birds having their baths. When I moved here from my old house where hundreds of birds visited over the years no birds came. Over the months birds finally discovered the bird bath and I am thrilled about it. i have planted some ranunculas around the bird bath so I have the flowers to look forward to.

Susan, I can just imagine what a lovely place this is. Great job on this especially with the color. And such great memories and memories to look forward to.

This is very "refreshing" and I couldn't help but think it would make a lovely spring card with the text "April Showers Bring May Flowers!" You're doing wonderfully and it's nice to see you exploring styles--hope it's as fun for you to experiment as it is for me to look!!

Very pretty, Susan. I like this looser style. You really made it work.

Nice watercolor...makes me wonder what kind of birds you have come to your serenely drawn bird-feeder 'down under': finches, jays...who are the wing'd visitors to your courtyard?
I only inquire about this as a curious fellow birdbath provider in SE USA. (I had a group of cedar waxwings stop by on their migrating way...but just for an instant!)

Rah,
Birds aren't so interesting here. Mostly I get pigeons and crows and the occasional black bird. I've never seen a magpie which is a wonderful large black and white bird that usually walk around the neighbourhood in groups of three. At my old place I got finches and sparrows as well but haven't seen them here. I live in the suburbs so the birds aren't so interesting but I love them just the same.

Hi Susan,

I think I must have your share of magpies. My neighbours feed the pigeons but my yard is almost exclusively magpie territory. Occasionally I'll see parrots or wattle birds but they'll end up in a fight.

Magpies sing beautifully too.

love,
Rosemary

Just lovely, the delicacy of the colour.

This is such a sweet, charming little piece. I agree with Brenda, it would make a great spring greeting card. I love watching the birds in the bath, too. They seem to have so much fun splashing around.

Your courtyard sounds beautiful with the zuchhini and pumpkin etc, growing around your birdbath...and This is a lovely sketch and wash!

Nice! I have been doing better at drawing, but I went outside to draw my birdbath, it's a tiered one. It didnt quite turn out right. Not using the right side of my brain I guess.
