Detail

I am working through a how to draw book that suggested drawing a corner of the room. I drew the cabinet in the lounge. The cabinet is one of the first pieces of furniture I commissioned for my first home. It is made of Tasmanian Oak and has stained glass doors at the top. It is full of all my treasures and favourite glass ware. I have other furniture to match and I have had it now for over 25 years. I want to grow old with the furniture. I don't want to update it.
I really enjoyed doing the drawing because it was one of my first detailed drawings and I am very happy with the result. It was done in pencil but I had to enhance it on the computer so it could be seen on the blog.
Lots of love from Susan in Australia

You've done a great job on this Susan - lots of really good detail.

I can see why you want to hang on to this cupboard, Susan. I wouldn't be in a rush to grow old though - too much to sketch :) The sketch is great - full of detail and I particularly love the stained glass.

Lovely drawing! It's fun to see little glimpses into others lifes, I never thought of getting old with the furniture, I think of what I could replace things with. Sounds awful put like that!

Absolutely lovely piece of furniture and wonderful memories to go with it. Great detail work Susan.

Oh, it's a very lovely piece. I agree! Some pieces of furniture need to grow old with us and then move into other homes where they will be treasured. What a terrific sketch - and not an easy one!!

The detail on this is lovely, and the whole thing stands up well (I'm sure my attempt would have been wonky). It looks like a lovely piece of furniture, well worth hanging on to.
