Challenge 107 - where I get my weekly paper

This was great fun. When I realised I'd have to go to my local newsagents to do a sketch I freaked out as I usually only sketch at home and then I thought what the heck noone will bother about me sketching in the newsagents. I did ask permission of the worker.
I was overwhelmed by the detail as most of the challenges for me so far have been single objects. I will ask the EDMers what they do about lots of detail. In the newsagents there was a wall full of cards and I didn't know how to translate that in the drawing. I noticed I was a lot looser in my drawing. The shapes weren't as tidy.
This was a great learning experience. I love where the challenges take me. When I first read about them I didn't think I was interested now I really look forward to the weekly challenge.
Lots of love from Susan in Australia
PS Apparently there has been a request to make a link that takes the EDMer to the post that is being mentioned rather than the whole blog. I'll see how I go with the instructions I've been given...hopefully you arrived here directly.

Isn't it fun where these challenges take us. Sometimes it's the trip rather than the art. I am proud of you going there to sketch in public, not an easy thing to do. The first time I did it I thought the art police were coming to get me.

You captured a lot of detail very nicely. Good job. We are all different when it comes to detail. Sometimes I love details and sometimes I just sketch the focus. That is called artist's license. I have learned to ask myself what is the focal point and work from there. Just do whatever your gut tells you. I promise the art police will not come to get you! :)

Wonderful, wonderful job. I can really see people standing here and getting news. Good balance between the main idea and some details. It tells the story.

I like the 'unfinished' quality of the drawing. It makes me aware of the fleetingmoment of buying a paper or magazine. The story is there for us to read and fill in the gaps. Very nicely done!

Great job, Susan! You got a real sense of perspective on the wall with the cards too! Teri's comment about the art police is a very good and light-hearted way to look at sketching in public. I'm really very proud of you and what you have accomplished in such a short time and always look forward to seeing and reading your lovely blog!!

Hello Susan. You've got more guts than me, to stand in a newsagent's to sketch! You've done a fantastic job - just enough detail to render the scene.

Great job! Drawing in public the first time can be a bit scary -- Teri hit the nail on the head!
:-D Congrats on a great drawing. Great perspective, just enough detail, and you captured a personality to the place, too. Super!

You are getting really brave and this little drawing is delightful. Brings back memories of the newsagent across the street from my house in Perth. It was good that you didn't try to get too detailed in this kind of drawing.
