A tree

This tree was a lot of fun because I learnt so much. It was the first time I took my water colors out of the house.....4 feet from the front door so I could look down the drive at this tree. After painting the huge leaves I suddenly realised the perpective was all wrong. The leaves couldn't possibly be that big but I wanted the effect that I saw on the tree. I couldn't get the clors right due to my only being a beginner. I discovered so many things that I will need to learn in the future. It was very satisfying to paint. It was supposed to be for Challenge 100 as a landscape for Everyday matters. I am quite overwhelmed at the moment to know what directions to go in...there is so much to learn.
I went to my brother's today to use his scanner and decided I really need to get one myself so I'll see what I can do next week.

Nicely done! Trees can be tricky -- but you've looked and seen that the truck isn't just brown -- yeah!! and the leaves are large and where they're clustered and are multiple greens... you're on your way!!!

You have good observation skills. As far as light source, you've painted what you saw - that's usually a pretty big hurdle for most people. I'm referring to the shady side of the tree trunk and being consistent with the shady side of leaves as well. Excellent! And very exciting that you actually painted it plein aire!!!

I think you did a wonderful job at observation and painting what you saw. That's important. Your watercolors are working just right for you.
Nice sketch. Brenda and Lin hit it on the head, couldn't add much more that what they already said.

It's amazing how much can be learnt in just one attempt - now you have those new understandings to take on to the next effort - well done

Quite the evocative first go Susan. You know Anne, her Mum is heavily into watercolours so I've picked up a few things by osmosis. Your tree has a good feel to it and that's what it's all about so keep at it.
